Karmawin est un compositeur et producteur originaire de Lyon, aujourd'hui basé au Canada. Issu de la scène punk underground avant d'évoluer vers l'électro en tant que DJ live, il trouve en 2017 sa signature dans le hip-hop et le lo-fi. Influencé par Nujabes ainsi que par des figures majeures du rap français comme Fonky Family et La Rumeur, il amorce alors un virage vers le beatmaking et une production riche, texturée et cinématographique.
Son premier album vinyle Noir (2018, Postpartum Records) s'écoule rapidement, suivi de Crossway (2020), qui inclut des collaborations avec Ours Samplus et Goomar. Il développe ensuite son univers à travers plusieurs projets tels que Rainy Moods, Summertime et Zealot, en collaboration avec le rappeur américain DistantStarr.
Le son de Karmawin dépasse les frontières grâce à des collaborations internationales, notamment avec le MC japonais TA-TI et le rappeur torontois Classik. En 2024, il sort avec ce dernier l'album Higher Frequencies, confirmant son identité à la croisée d'un hip-hop jazzy et soulful. Le morceau « Self Made » issu de ce projet est notamment intégré au jeu vidéo de football UFL, marquant une première incursion dans le placement musical.
Désormais basé à Montréal, Karmawin s'est produit ces dernières années lors d'événements comme le Festival des Murales 2024, tout en poursuivant le développement d'un univers sonore singulier, mêlant mélodie, atmosphère et influences multiculturelles.
